In a recent interview I was asked where I think the elearning industry is headed in the years to come.

Though I'm not going to think I'm an expert regarding the latest developments within the field of e-learning, I do have an eye for spotting trends over the course of.

The e-learning market is quite large.

Answering a question about the direction I believe it's going isn't easy to answer without resorting to broad generalizations.

However, I'm not sure where I see e-learning going?

You may be looking at your feet. Sure, it's not exactly the most groundbreaking assertion, but that does not make it less valid.

Mobile Learning Set to Rule

The mobile learning movement will influence many aspects of elearning. This includes instructional design as well as the software we employ for creating instructional content.

Anybody who is worth their salt in the field knows that the need to move towards mobile learning.

Software companies must gain more knowledge of devices that people will be using to access the content they created using their software.

Organizations should gain insight into how their employees most often access information related to their job (here's a hint: your smartphones) and then start looking for ways to incorporate this into their business model.

Mobile learning is more than just learning on an mobile device. It's only the start. We will see it impact many areas of education and will likely lead to the creation of entirely new areas of the market.
