We sought out Titika about the key to making her black and white photographs

"My Name is Titika Rotkjaer; I am an artist from Copenhagen, Denmark. After studies in communication in Roskilde University, Denmark, I moved to Norway to pursue a degree in visual arts initially at Oslo National Academy of the Arts then in Bergen in Bergen, where I concluded my study in visual arts at Bergen Academy of Art and Design and earned an MA in Textile Art. I have no formal education in photography. My knowledge about editing and photography is derived from my ongoing self-education.

Are you interested in learning more about my personal style? Would I like to discuss style rather than style? I never think about style... Telling stories from an intimate and poetic perspective Each image is a result of my concentrate on mood, expression, the atmosphere. Developing how my images appear is a process. It is my goal to always refine and clear the meaning. Sometimes , I edit old photos if I gain new knowledge that enables me to come closer to the image I wanted to create.

The key to making the mysterious images I have created ...? For the majority of my photos which I've made in the last four years - I've explored the complex and sense of self and have a particular interest in connecting inner and outer realities. Some of my photographs - but not all - consist of digitally manipulated photographs (all obviously taken by myself).

My method usually starts with an intrigue or curiosity to explore a theme or complex of feelings. I take pictures, make notes, read and gain more knowledge, and take another shot. The process of working with my images frequently leads me to construct an original image out of several other. I create my work in a way that is subjective, experimental and in a way that is intuitive to themes to let the photographs take shape. It's difficult to have a clear vision of the end result in my mind's eye and then shoot the elements to build it."
