Personal finance instructor Dana Miranda's first audience wasn't an appropriate fit. Once she decided to make this change, she began to broaden her audience. |
Dana Miranda shifted her focus after Dana Miranda shifted her target clients toward providing opportunities to provide education and training nonprofits and teachers she observed increased satisfaction and better alignment with her position.
Over the course of two time Dana Miranda worked as a personal financial journalist, she noticed an unspoken tendency. "Most financial content for personal use available, the majority of it is from a singular view, and it generally is white, male heteronormative and is based on middle class families."
"I am a middle-class woman," Dana shares. "I'm a queer woman. It was clear that the lack of representation and understanding about the unique nature of this diverse set of scenarios which individuals face in relation to the subject of money."
Instead of repeating exactly the information that everyone else published, Dana decided to change the truth.
At present, Dana Miranda is a personal finance coach and is the creator of Healthy Rich , the website which gives a low-cost, no-cost financial education. Here is how Dana designed her website and made sure her mission will reach as many individuals as she could, despite taking a different course.
The fact that a strategy for monetization is popular doesn't mean it's the right option for your business.
Healthy Rich started as an extracurricular project which Dana was a part of during her time as a journalist for an agency that was a freelancer.
"I developed Healthy Rich to provide an avenue to write my personal financial stories. It was just a website, and there was not any money coming through. I wasn't sure of how I would earn money from it would be however, I knew that I'd eventually want to turn it into a company."
"I didn't want to earn profits through affiliates or advertising," Dana explains. "That's fairly commonplace within the realm of personal finance, but I wasn't happy with the results I had observed on sites I employed on for. To ensure we gave the customer value I removed advertisements from the formula."
Dana was a fan of the content she developed. Dana was also fond of interacting to students, listening to the comments and giving responses to students' queries. There was something that didn't feel right about selling her merchandise to her fans.
"I felt a bit ignorant about the whole launch. I was apprehensive about the whole sales procedure of convincing people they're suffering from the issue and I've got an answer. However, none of the solutions seemed appropriate to me." Dana remembers.
Selling products directly to consumers isn't the ideal approach and this was a massive issue. Even though this was a part of Healthy Rich's plan for monetization, she would like her fans to have access the content without cost. Her goal was to earn money, however she did not wish to see the money come directly out of the pockets of people she wanted to assist.
When you are creating your products to sell to your target market, this isn't natural. make an effort to shift your attention
To gain a deeper understanding about the subject, Dana had conversations with community leaders and teachers. After these discussions she realised that there was a massive need for individual finance education as well. Dana was the ideal person to provide the education.
"The need for financial education is currently on increasing," Dana explains.
"There is a handful of states that require it is mandatory to take a personal finance class before you graduate from high school. However, most states do not provide funding or offer a path to education specially designed to enable someone to become an instructor in personal financial matters. Teachers that are getting into the field are usually instructed to lead the class in financial matters and aren't adequately prepared for this."
Similar challenges were also faced by the employees of nonprofit organizations as well as those who work with vulnerable people.
"People employed by non-profit organizations could assist others in another aspect of their lives, however they are directly involved in financial matters. They have questions concerning the financial aspect, but they're at ease answering. I want to help people understand this subject so they can be able to respond confidently."
Dana found out that she was able to discontinue selling her products to people who are not interested in them instead, and offer them to instructors and trainers that have a larger audience. The message she shared could be heard by many more people, her business would earn money and she'd be ecstatic due to the impact she created.
"I prefer to provide individuals with the data they require to have the information, free of charge when I can. Contributing to community organizations and schools provides an opportunity for me to offer the classes to those who require it as people take part in these classes and courses absolutely no cost," she shares.
"This has created a completely new client base to my company as I could facilitate instructors and trainers. I am able to work from both sides of the table and not advertise the same classes to each person."
As Dana began designing her new education program, Dana began to design her new It was successful.
"My first class launch was a great test. I'm pleased that I learned everything I learned however, I'm also thrilled that I could master the subject quickly before beginning another chapter."
" I'd like to allow me to choose the things I want. I like the idea that it lets me to design what I'd like."
Your ideas aren't limited or your tools must be.
In order to meet prospective clients, sign up on LinkedIn through sharing your work
"People love to discuss their latest project. Create a list of companies that you'd like to collaborate with, as well as learn more about the things they're engaged in," Dana notes.
"It's extremely beneficial for me to determine the areas which I would like to join forces with. That's education and non-profit organisations. I'm from Wisconsin and that's why I'm starting locally with local associations in the local community. I'm able reach out to another community member to inform them that I am worried about the work you're doing in my area. Let's talk about how we can collaborate.'"
By reimagining her target audience and the products they need, Dana transformed Healthy Rich into beyond a site with suggestions on how to plan your financial future. It's a chance to shift the discussion about finances in our culture.
"The way we speak about money has turned into an issue and I'd like to change how we discuss money. I'm looking forward to providing teachers with the materials they require, as well as ensure that they're teaching this subject with a holistic and comprehensive approach, and not in the traditional methods of spending money or repaying debt I've seen."
When she changed her focus away from individuals to teachers as well as employees of non-profit organizations, Dana stayed true to her beliefs and chose the best method of sharing her experience to people who required it the most.
Take new paths and stay away from comparing yourself to others
Dana advises authors that "there's no perfect method for how to make a living as. It's best to play around and find out which option is the best to your needs."
One method to discover your individual path is to avoid comparing you to the other individuals who've made. However, Dana recommends looking to your previous experiences as a way to assess the progress you have made. become better.
"Everyone is at a point in their lives, working to move to the next step. The most beneficial thing for me is to look back on my life in the last five or ten years," she says.
"When I first began my freelance career I was imagining becoming an author. I did a few writing assignments as well as other projects for freelance within the first couple of years, I made the lowest wages. When I'm unhappy about the state of my profession, I glance at my previous work and think about the things I've accomplished."
"I am able to secure the full-time post of an employee writer" writer claims. "In the last few years, I made more than six figures working as a writer who freelanced. In the present I'm in the middle of a transition where instead of my revenue primarily from freelance writing, I'd like it to be via my own business .
"It's difficult to figure out the best way to achieve this. When you first told me twelve years ago what kind of position I'd be in, I didn't imagine that this would ever be the case. I'm awestruck."
At the end of the day, choosing to live your life can be an enormous success, and it's possible that you've achieved more than you think.
"I think having this type of a dream is something that one must be proud of, regardless of what stage you're at."
