Painting and installation work - The CreativeMindClass Blog
Nicole Mueller is an artist from San Francisco. Her artwork includes large-scale works as well as murals and installations that mimic the effects from stained glass. Motivated by processes the abstract pieces are vibrant and saturated. They are constructed by layers of collage-like forms. Her work explores the complexities of colors, states of flux, dichotomies within painting, the transitional nature of being, and the threshold between outside and inside, the tangible and intangible.
About my background
I'm primarily a painter who is a full-time artist in San Francisco, California.
My background also includes painting murals, installation work in addition to being involved in arts administration as well as career advancement.
I studied painting at MICA. Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore which is where I lived for a number of years prior to moving towards West Coast.
A significant portion of my job and purpose is co-hosting Beyond the Studio with fellow artist Amanda Adams, a podcast designed to promote transparency in the art world by interviewing other working contemporary artists about their career paths.
My style
The majority of my work has been intuitive, driven by process, abstract, highly saturated, made of color and layers of collage-like patterns.
I create large-scale artworks, light-activated window installations that mimic the effects of stained glass as well as murals. In this project I'm studying dichotomies, state of flux and the threshold between external and interior, and both tangible and intangible.
What is the secret to creating my work
I think showing up consistently at your job is crucial. For me developing a studio practice and setting goals for myself to keep moving forward has helped me prioritize my tasks when life gets in my way. Also, knowing when to step back and take a break or rest (for a day up to a month or even for a longer period of time).
