What's your story?

"My name is Sylvia Boomer Yang. I'm an illustrator animator, and GIF artist from Brooklyn, New York. As part of my job as an artist I design motion graphics, animated illustrations as well as storyboards to explainers for videos and applications. However, what I truly like to do as a side project is make fun and quirky cartoons and stickers that can make anyone smile, and allow them to express themselves."

"I grew up in Taiwan and started with the fine arts school when I was little. I was always drawn to drawing but slowly I got stuck in a strict education way of life. I felt like I couldn't express my own personal style and personality using the traditional methods of art. Learning about fine art definitely helped me to build the basis for who I am today."

"I changed to design in college, and then moved into New York for grad school. That's when I began experimenting with animations and digital art. Animation has given me the power to combine motion and illustration to tell a story through a fluid way. I really enjoyed exploring how to make still images come to life."

What's the secret in creating your animation graphic?

"I am a fan of working with an empathetic sense and strong emotions that help people feel connected, exploring different media and creating a unique aesthetic. The process of designing can be really enjoyable!"

"Collaboration/teamwork is one of the keys I evaluate a lot. I enjoy how people generate ideas in the group, and I believe that good work typically is built by a group comprised of individuals with distinct strengths and abilities.

In daily life, I'm always creating new things that make me feel inspired. When not designing motion graphics, I can find myself making mess in the kitchen (lots cook!) as well as making craft projects. I frequently go to Brooklyn market and try my hand with various ingredients at home. The world is full of magical things, I love exploring different cultures, new communities, and art that is innovative."
