"Let's begin with the words which most accurately describe me: strong creative, expressive and multi-layered."

How did you transition your architectural designs to mixed-media drawings?

"When it came time to make a decision about my career, I was also advised by other people, not to go after a career in art. And I listened. Then I graduated with a Bachelor and Master's degree in Architecture and being utterly bored of the work in front of the computer. In my time off at university, I decided creating illustrations, artworks and other products that featured my designs on them, and I had never felt better!

It all took off right when I was offered a position in an architecture office, which I currently manage with my illustration business and ongoing studies in the field of art and history. I hope to get rid of the position of corporate architect in the near future and focus fully on the art I love as well as using mixed-media methods.

I'm hoping my tale will aid people who are undecided about which subject to pursue to understand that a degree in art does not matter, you can be an artist with no background. The best part is that this can create a unique art. Of course, attending an art school is a wonderful experience as well!"

What would you say about your illustration style?

"I believe that describing your personal style is something extremely difficult. I was forced to talk to my friends about this one and their descriptions of it could not be more exact. They said my art looks like my paintings are moving like the wind is blowing through the painting and dropping color on everything it touches. There is no better way to describe the effect honestly.

I enjoy layering textures and mixing a wide range of shades, and I'm an extremeist in this sense. The more difficult I attempt to limit a palette of colors, the wider the color range gets.

When we take a look at some of my topic options, some of my most favorite subjects to paint are landscapes containing mountains and oceans, because it brings me back to my childhood home in Tenerife which is a small, charming island in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.

However, I also create human-like characters with over-the-top features and vibrant skin. And of course, I always include an architectural component - those architectural studies that I completed over the course of six years will be visible in my work."

What's the secret for creating mixed-media artwork?

"I think that the most important thing to making my art is to not plan ahead too much. It's fair to say that this approach can be successful but it can also fail However, not being excessively about what will happen allows you to be free to explore your art.

I enjoy watching the process of coloring and making decisions and changing my minds when I finish my work. This shows the relationship I have with the paper, to my context, and to my paint and you will see my process of decision-making to the end product.

I like being able to play with my hands and mix up my personal paints. All you need in order to be able to recreate my art is a lot of different substances (doesn't require anything expensive, but I enjoy mixing mediums) as well as a flexible hand, and some courage to apply paint layers and begin from scratch."

There is a way to connect with Claudia over on Instagram or her website. Claudia is an innovative instructor and teaches her talents on the internet. The class she teaches Mixed Media paint your childhood home has already had more than 2k students.
