How did you transition your architectural designs to mixed-media drawings?

"When it came time to decide on a career I was told, as other people, not to take up a career in the arts. And I listened. After completing a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Architecture, and I was completely dissatisfied with my work front of the computer. Then , during my gap year following university, I began to create illustrations, paintings as well as products that had my design on them and I've never been happier!

The whole thing took off after I secured a position at an office for architecture that I am now working on alongside my illustration business and new studies of art and history. I'm hoping to get rid of the job in corporate architecture in the near future and focus fully on my passion for art-making and using mixed media techniques.

I hope my story helps those who are unsure of which subject to pursue to understand that the art degree does not matter, you could be an artist from every background. And the most important thing is, this will give your work a distinctive look. Of course, attending an art college must be a fantastic time!"

What would you say about your style of illustration?

"I consider that the process of describing your style is a difficult task. I was forced to talk to my acquaintances about this and their descriptions of the style couldn't be more precise. My art appears as if everything I paint appears in movement like the wind is blowing through the painting and dropping color on everything it touches. It's impossible to find a more appropriate way of describing it honestly.

I love layering textures as well as exploring a variety of shades, and I'm the ultimateist in this regard. The harder I try to limit a palette of colors more, the greater the spectrum of color gets.

When we take a look at my subjects options, some of my most favorite subjects to paint are landscapes containing mountains and the ocean, as it reminds me of my home town of Tenerife, a quaint little island situated in the Atlantic ocean.

However, I also create human-like characters that have exaggerated features as well as vibrant skin. Also, of course, I will always incorporate an architectural component - those architectural studies that I completed over the course of six years will be visible in my work."

What are the most important factors in creating your mixed-media illustration?

"I believe that the key to making my art is to not plan too much beforehand. To be fair, this technique sometimes works however it is not always successful However, not being over the end result allows you to be free to experiment while painting.

I love watching how I color and painting and changing my mind on my final work. This shows the relationship I have with the paper, to my surroundings, as well as to the paint. You will see my process of decision-making on the final piece.

I love being able to get my hands dirty and mix up my own colors. All you require to be able to recreate my work is lots of different materials (doesn't need to be anything extravagant, however I enjoy mixing media) as well as a flexible hand, and the courage to mix paints and to start at the beginning."
