We had a panel discussion with three Black customers in order to learn more about their own life experiences, and the people who guided them to the point they are at within their lives, and also their hopes and plans to shape the future of our country.

Karl Ferguson Jr.

Karl believes in the belief that your job must allow you to follow your passion, until the energy you feel can be used to finance the rest of your life. Karl has done exactly that by balancing his work alongside his passion for portrait photography. One glance at his website is sure to leave one stunned by the number of notable people he's shot in the world of entertainment. Karl's site has allowed people to showcase his work the eyes of potential buyers within a few minutes. "One one of the best features the site provides is the speed in which I'm able to drag and drop pictures for modification at the click of a button," Karl says.

Community has played a major role in Karl's success with photography. The sharing of ideas with fellow Black photographers helps him feel an underlying sense of community even in a field that may feel lonely in times. Karl hopes to contribute back over the course of his career to help to build similar communities for the newest photographers in the industry. "Paying to others is making yourself accessible to others," Karl says. In sharing his experiences as well as his knowledge, Karl hopes to help other creatives become the best that they can be.

In response to a question about what he would suggest to his young self since he's just beginning in photography, Karl's advice is: "Don't get so intense that you stop enjoying making. Being patient and taking part in this process could be among the essential aspects of becoming a photographer."
