In January of 2020, Nia Pettitt inaugurated the Curl Bar which is an establishment that caters to curly hair, situated in London. The concept of the salon was not just about creating a beautiful environment for clients and beautiful, but also creating an atmosphere for all clients to be embraced and admired.

Bring a brick and mortar business to the next level

The idea of opening a salon for hair with curly locks has been a wish of Nia's. "I often journeyed across America for my hair to be styled because it was difficult to find salons within London or even within of the UK," she says. "I wanted to create something that felt safe, in a calm and relaxed environment and conveyed visually my desires when I was a little girl." Many people embraced this concept by opening the doors at The Curl Bar the bar, reservations soon were filled to capacity.

"Your life changes once you make the decision to start your own business. Consider if you're willing to change your ways," Nia advises aspiring entrepreneurs. No one could have predicted what kind of change was about to arrive for Nia along with The Curl Bar. Only a few months after its debut, the bar was forced to temporarily close due to COVID-19 closures within the UK. Even a definite stop in operations didn't slow Nia down.

"I did not have a plan for growing the business, let alone in the epidemic," she says. "I simply view every moment as a lesson to be learned from." As The Curl Bar was closed, Nia shifted her focus on social media and interacting with her stylists as well as her clients electronically until the salon could fully reopen.
