Cult Classic tells the tale of Lola who is the editor of a magazine in New York who, though she's recently engaged, feels unsatisfied with her partner. Then one night, she runs into one of her former boyfriends, then another. Lola soon discovers the existence of a cult run by her former boss deliberately putting these ex-boyfriends in her path to conduct an experiment. What follows is a funny and thought-provoking tale about reliving the past, perhaps even making peace with it.
Sloane is unable to pinpoint an exact "aha" moment that shaped the idea behind the novel However, her own personal experiences of wellness culture as well as contemporary dating was incorporated into the book. "I think that anyone who reads this book is someone who is a specialist in wellness and dating today," she says. "We're totally absorbed in the topic and often they take as satire the form of novels."
The actress did some specific studying on cults in order to make sure that she got the facts exactly they were she desired them to be. "I needed manifestos or instruction guides from inside so I could take a cue from the language in a comedy," Sloane says.
