Greater control of Community notification -- for you and

Jul 6, 2022

The community's notification settings have been updated for a better user experience (and less emails). Here's what's new.

What's the right way to let members know what's happening within your neighborhood?

You want to let your customers know about new discussions and encourage them to participate in discussions more often However, you need to give them control over their experience and avoid notification overload. We also learned from our designers how vital that you strike the right balance.

In the most recent update to the community features, you and your members are more in control of messages. That means livelier discussions, no more flooded with emails, and a community platform that can bring the members and you closer to each other.

Set your own notifications settings as a creator member

Creators and community members can now choose which notifications they want to receive for every topic: new posts and responses to your comments, and/or new replies to your feedback.

When you log into a community as a member Go to Settings, then click on "Edit" next to Notifications. (Creators will find this option in the Notifications section of their Account Settings.)

It will show all the community topics you follow. Simply check or uncheck the boxes to choose the types of alerts you'd like to receive for every topic.

In this case, for instance, you may wish to receive updates for postings, comments and replies in a time-sensitive topic like live Events and Announcements. In other areas, you may want to be only notified whenever someone publishes an announcement - or opt out of announcements for that subject completely.

You may also toggle your notifications off or on by clicking "Mute all" as well as "Unmute the entire".

Additionally, you are able to alter your notifications per-topic quickly from your "All topics"page or an specific topic page. Hit the bell icon and then choose your preferred notification settings.

Set default notifications for a topic

Creators are also able to set default notification settings for each area of your community. This will give you more control over how members experience.

Instead of sending notification emails to your subscribers for each article in each topic You can select which subjects your members are notified about and the kind of notifications they will receive.

Here's how:

On the Community tab of your dashboard, select "All topics". Next, select the "..." next to the topic you'd like to edit and then select "Edit Topic". From there, choose your settings for notifications under "Default notifications".

Users can alter these notifications settings at any point for their accounts. If members haven't changed their settings, they'll default to the ones created by the person who designed every topic.

We hope these community updates will improve the experience for the members and you. Thank you for taking the time to read!
