The fiber-artist Amanda Adams

I'm a fiber artist and illustrator based in Baltimore. I relocated to Baltimore in order to attend Maryland Institute College of Art. Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) which is where Nicole Mueller and I met and made friends. We also started Beyond the Studio. Beyond the Studio podcast together. In the past nine years I've worked hard to build my small art business Call Studio Close Call Studio where I work in full-time.

How would you describe your personal style?

My approach to art making, whether drawing, sewing or whatever is unselfconscious designed to please and inspire those who see it. I can be moody and direct and some of my pieces can seem a bit introspective, yet there's always an element of humor and a sense of play.

What's the secret to creating art?

It varies from season the season, but having an attitude of "no pressure" in the studio is absolutely key to me at the moment. I've put on a lot quantity of stress on myself that didn't show positively on my work or life so creating the space to relax and enjoy gardening is just as important for me when I sit down to draw.
