Celebrate History and celebrate Progression: International Women's Day 2024
Each year on the 8th of March, people gather to commemorate International Women's Day (IWD). This is a day to celebrate the accomplishments of women, consider the challenges they face, and pledge to create a world where women's rights are truly respected. In retrospect, this day was not born in only one day. It's the culmination of years of fighting, endurance and unrelenting commitment. We are proud to celebrate IWD and encourage all to join in the festivities with an insightful trip through the lengthy and deep history of IWD and a testament that its effectiveness continues to grow thanks to the work of everyone.
Starting by planting Seeds of Change to a global movement
The seeds for IWD began to germinate at the turn at the beginning of the century. That was when women's rights were being fought for gained momentum. On March 8 in 1857, women workers marched through the streets to protest over the poor working conditions and the lack of women's rights when they were employed in the field of textiles. The strike demanded a lower duration for working and a fair wage for the living. The following year the march on March 8 the march of women working at needlework was held in order to protest child labor, working conditions in sweatshops and also to assert that women had the right to vote. Two years later in 1910 the date of march 8 was declared a day of the year to be International Women's Day.
The process of change is the catalyst
In the 20th century, IWD was a powerful force for changes. It provided a platform for women to speak out and express their views about issues including the right to vote in the United States, equal work conditions and wages and education. In 1975, it was the first time IWD became recognized as a right by The United Nations officially recognized IWD and affirmed the value of IWD.
A Day of Celebration and Action
Today, IWD is celebrated in various ways, ranging from stunning marches to intimate celebrations. This event is a time to celebrate women who have excelled in all areas, starting to scientists, artists as well as activists and entrepreneurs. However, IWD is not just a chance to celebrate women. It's the time to advocate for actions. This is a chance to remind ourselves that the fight for gender equality is far from ending. It is imperative that we continue fighting to ensure equality of opportunities for all, fight stereotypes of discrimination and to support women all over the world. The main theme for International Women's Day 2024 is " Invest in Women: Accelerating Progress" along with the popular hashtag "#InvestInWomen..
It's built on The UN Five elements need to be developed further in order to promote the hashtag until the hashtag is no longer required:
