The fiber-artist, Amanda Adams

I'm a fiber-artist and illustrator living in Baltimore. I came to Baltimore in order to go to Maryland Institute College of Art. Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and that's where Nicole Mueller and I met and began to become friends. It was before that we began the Beyond the Studio podcast together. In the past nine years, I've been building up my art-related business, a small one Close Call Studio where I work in full-time.

What would you say about the style you prefer?

My approach to art making, whether that's drawing, sewing or anything else is non-self-conscious and meant to delight and inspire those who see it. I can be moody and clear and my work can be kinda dark but there's always some humor and a sense of play.

What are the keys to creating art?

The process varies from season to the season, but having the mindset that is "no pressure" in the studio is fundamental for me in the present. I've been a huge deal of pressure on myself, which did not reflect effectively in my professional or personal life so creating spaces for relaxation and garden is just as important for me when I sit down to draw.
