My story
My name is Ekaterina Boguslavskaya. I grew up in Russia.
I studied in Moscow However, I was a summer camper out in the country.
It was cold and there was no hot water, the house was heated with a heater as well as the neighbor's raised goats and cows. Wonderful times! Besides nature and bicycles I was obsessed with animation. All my peers were grown up and no longer enjoyed cartoons, but I did contrary! I realized that this could be my preferred thing to do. It was how I got into film school located in Moscow, Russia.
My style
My drawings should always evoke some very soulful feelings. As if you are sitting by the fireplace after an afternoon of ski in the woods.
My process
I enjoy drawing. It has something in common with meditation. If I'm in the process of working in the dark, it might get dark outside, I'll get hungry, but it doesn't really affects me while in the process.
Today, I am employed in the animation industry and illustration... and even for board games. I really love what I do.
I've always been drawing often. It started looking better after I completed my studies. Because I began to decide what and how I draw.
My suggestion to skeptical visual artists
Find something you love and love about it. Do your best to not listen to people if you don't really appreciate what they're doing. It will all work out! You will meet people who are going to be enthralled by what you're doing.
My technique
I draw almost everything on my iPad in Procreate. Sometimes I finish something using Photoshop.
The iPad has changed my life. Now I work in my bed, at libraries, in cafes. When I pick a location for work and move around, I am not confined to sitting on my laptop. The iPad is a wonderful tool that combines classic drawing and computer-generated drawing.
The iPad comes with amazing brushes. For example, I bought watercolor brushes in "The Watercolor MaxPack - Brushes for Procreate". I get excited every time I make use of these brushes. They are very close to the real thing as they can get.
A few words about the way I conduct my work
It is my goal to create an outline sketch of objects. Since I find hard lines rough and cold.
Sometimes, I tint my shadows cold blueish using the multiply setting. Sometimes I employ overlay. It's a bit confusing for me. how it works.
Procreate offers some excellent blur options, check these out! There are several varieties, which are very effective. But mostly I draw as I do with traditional materials on canvas or paper.
I'm still looking, learning about my subject, and trying to get closer to the image I like by making personal projects.
About the Teriberka series
I did after traveling there (to Teriberka). Russian North, the Arctic. The town was once used to build ships and take a great deal of fish. Today, it's a little abandoned.
Please Google it! It's stunning.
I always like the North.
I like the animals, the people as well as the multitude of colors of Moss. Tiny berries contain loads of vitamins, more than any tropical fruit. It's very impressive.
Northern cliffs look like the skin of huge elephants! These are the feelings which I have tried to portray in these photos.
About the Tiny Things series
This project came into my thoughts after I had become exhausted of my job, the flu and the city.
I purchased a macro lens and went into the forest. It was amazing how beautiful was under my feet! Everything was stunning. It gave me a lot of creative energy. It was how this project was born.
No matter what happens it is possible to find a miracle that is right there!
How I organize my time at work
The hardest thing is to control your time and relaxation, to refuse proposals that aren't appropriate. or to do a lot of work and try to survive and not get tired of doing what you love. The whole thing I'm studying.
The creative blockages
The hard part is the process itself and sometimes the process doesn't come out as expected. The result isn't what I want. You can go through 8 hours and then get annoyed. After that, just a few days later, you can redo it in an hour and it looks great. What's that? Magic.
This is my little piece of advice for how to conquer the creative blockages
When there is some kind of task - do not take a moment to draw (if possible). Your brain should be able to process the task in the background while you're working on other tasks. It's the way I see you can find the best solution.
What do I think of my work
If I were to grade my own work - I'd never rate myself the grade of "excellent". It's exhausting, and I torture myself. On the other hand, it drives me to move forward.
Drawing can be like an adventure!
You have tickets to a country, you have a knowledge of it from Google, something will surprise you right on the spot. So far, it seems like a cool adventure to me.
Find her work on her website and look out for an expansion of the series shown here on Instagram , Artstation or Behance.
