A book illustrator, Soosh, talks about her fairytale art.

When I was searching for Soosh in order to start this piece thoroughly, I came across her YouTube videos. If you've seen her work, you'll notice that it seems as if an old fairytale is reborn. By also adding her voice in the form of stories, she makes the whole experience a complete and enchanting one by bringing the fairytale characters of her work to life. Keep reading but make sure that you visit the YouTube channel with a cup of hot tea, and get ready for a pretty special fairytale night.

We spoke to Soosh what she believes is the most important thing for capturing those small details of life every day through her art

"Hello, I'm Soosh. I was raised and born by people. I do not identify myself with any nation, race, religion, or anything else. My life is spent observing people and myself as I delve into the particulars of each. This is a difficult path. I didn't choose it intentionally however, I'm doing it. In terms of the traditional art school I'm not a fan of any.

While I'm aware there are modes of drawing and painting that can be described as styles, I have never given any thought to the sort of style my drawings could qualify as. If I tried for the right words to define the style, I would say it's something like a "fairytale realism" style. But speaking frankly, no style.

My opinion is that the most important thing for me, as I see it, is to see with your heart as much as you do with your eyes. It may take some practice to notice the small details, just like every other ability. The trick is to remain still for a while and completely present in the moment. Take note of what you are doing. Observe closely, without haste.

My main obsession has always been with people. Their expressions on their faces as well as their imitations of their actions, their gestures acts of kindness, and their weaknesses - all of it's fascinating and interesting to me. Then it's only an issue of time, two pencils and some watercolour to dive into and bring life to these everyday pictures on paper."
